  I now live out of state, but I was visiting my mother in law with my 1 year old daughter. When I arrived at the house, my daughter was burning up, I checked her temperature and it was 102.5. I decided to get her checked out by the Newark urgent care location. I get there, we got back quickly which was great. But once we were in the room, I could hear a nurse out in the hallway say "what? A 1 year old!!?!" Really loud. And I immediately started getting worried. The nurse came in and took her temperature from her forehead which showed 98degrees. Which I know couldn't be right, she was still burning hot and I had given her Tylenol about an 45 minutes to an hour before but there was no way her temp could of dropped that quickly. Plus even I know at her age, a rectal thermometer is the most accurate. The doctor comes in, checked her ears, asked a few questions. I explained she has had diarrhea since we landed a few days ago, she had a really bad rash, she is burning up, had a fever, she has one tooth coming down but I had never had a fever this high from teething so I want to make sure something else wasn't going on. He said well the fever went down, it's probably teething, he has seen temperatures that high from teething(which was hard to believe). He said to Keep up with Tylenol and monitor temp. And sent me on my way. I didn't trust that visit at all. As soon as we got home I took her temperature with a rectal thermometer, and it was 103.2!! I immediately take her to the ER and in triage they took her temperature with the rectal thermometer and it was 104.1. They took us right back to a room and start asking questions and after some narrowing down, an actual EXAMINATION and a then a requested pee sample they figured out it was a uti. She is now on anti Biotics and is recovering. The point of this is long story, I'm very disappointed that they didn't even bother to look at her rash & take her temperature correctly, it's hard to believe medical professionals were unaware of how to accurately take a toddlers temperature and not even examine any part of her body except her ears and tell me it's most likely a virus or teething and push us out the door. I'm so glad I checked her temperature again. I should of just went to the ER to begin with, but this was my first experience with a fever and I thought I could trust an urgent care(especially one connected to UR medicine.) for a fever with me explaining every symptom she had been experiencing, But I was sadly mistaken. I know urgent cares are limited with equipment but that was something they should of been able to figure out especially with a lab connected to it. Who knows what would of happened to my baby if I just kept pumping her with Tylenol and waited it out!
